NORTH CAROLINA CORRUPTION STARTS WITH McCRORY

A news release from the Governor’s office on April 8, 2013 hardly stirred up any public interest. The Governors office labeled the proposal “Partner for Posterity” headed by the Governor, which made it sound like typical uninteresting political hyperbole. Then the governor’s office announced that +Bill Elmore of Coca Cola Bottling Company “volunteered to lead the effort to restructure the North Carolina Department of Commerce. That sounded like private citizen was going to act as an advisor to the government. Then the “Renew North Carolina Foundation”, a secret political organization, announced they were supporting the “Partners for Progress” effort, tying the two together. That is when warning flags started waving.

If you do not think the “Renew North Carolina Foundation” is a secret organization you should note that they brag, “0 — Number of donors to the Renew North Carolina disclosed by Chairman +John Lassiter or President +Bob Singer”. At this point, things are starting to smell of government corruption. Bob Singer is a lawyer with the Brooks Pierce law firm, which brags that it has 15 state government lobbying clients. Singer’s law firm deals with banking, mergers, and acquisitions, public and private securities, which are areas of law that need constant and honest State regulator oversight.

John Lassiter, a close political associated of Gov. +Pat McCrory was named to head the “N.C. Economic Development Board”. The avowed purpose of that board is to oversee state economic development and make policy recommendations to the state’s Secretary of Commerce, Governor McCrory, and the General Assembly. Here is the scary part; the “board” is expected to play a role in creation of a new, private non-profit corporation that would “take over many economic duties of the State Commerce Department” and the above mentioned N.C. Economic Development Board.

Bill Elmore of Coca Cola will head up the restructuring of the State Department of Commerce, John Lassiter heads the N.C. Economic Development Board, Bob Singer and John Lassiter head the Renew North Carolina Foundation, and Governor Pat McCrory heads the State Partners for Progress. If you want in on the action just buy a $50,000 a year membership to Renew North Carolina Foundation; you can be sure no one will know that you are a member. Did I mention the +Art Pope owns McCrory.

What is happening in North Carolina is open and blatant corruption of state government. There will be no regulation of any kind for any business. The people will no longer be in charge of government. It will be in the hands of the greedy few. Where does honest business end and corruption begin? Let me suggest that a good place to start is at the Governors office.
