If you are a Republican, can you tell me what your party has
accomplished? As a Democrat, I can list a large number of things, especially as
related to the last 5 years. We are no longer fighting a crazy war in Iraq. We
are getting out of Afghanistan. We are not fighting wars in Pakistan, Egypt, Tunisia,
Syria, or Palestine. On the domestic front, we have an integrated society as
evidenced by having a mixed race President and public schools that open their doors
to everyone. We have maintained freedom of religion while living under secular
laws. Although it was a long time ago, we
were world leaders in how to take care of the problem of old age poverty
with the Social Security program (1935). Now, we are on the verge of catching up with the rest of the world in health care.

As a Republican, what are you proud of? A bomb, bomb, bomb foreign
policy to invoke an American business hegemony by violence and not merit. A
pledge to undercut Social Security by privatizing the program causes your chest
to swell with pride. Are you proud of your drive to destroy public schools with
voucher programs? Perhaps you think voter suppression meaning only the “right
kind of people” can vote, is a source of pride. Perhaps you feel destroying
women’s rights to maintain an authoritarian style of family structure is some how
morally right. On health care, the subject of current interests, perhaps you
are so proud of the fact that free enterprise failed so miserably that you want
to try it again. As for the president, some people dislike
Obama because he is a progressive, which is honest; therefore, something to be proud of,
but for people to hate him because
he is black is not—that is racism.
The title “Don’t Read this if Your GOP” is an effort to protect
my republican friends from the embarrassment of looking in a mirror.
