Janus was a two faced Roman God, one face looking to the
future the other to the past. I have taken the liberty to using that two faced God
to mean two ways of looking at the same data. In the face of 80 % opposition to
bombing Syria, Congress members were shocked that the President of the Untied States
would even consider doing so. I would agree with the 90% but because of his low-key
success in handling foreign affairs, was willing to cut him some slack.
Turn the other face. The American people were shocked that
Congress would vote against gun
control legislations, vote for oil
subsidies, and not vote for immigration
reform. President Obama wanted gun control, he did not want oil subsidies to
big oil companies, and he wanted immigration reform. A President who tends to “walk
softly” wanted to have the “big stick” of a bombing threat when dealing with
Syrian President al Assad but Congress was on the brink of refusing to allow
him to use his good judgment.
As a person interested in evolutionary psychology, I see in
all of this a manifestation of “innate Republican greed for power”. I have watched
various animals try repeatedly to achieve some goal. Put some dog food just out
of reach of your dog and watch; I don’t really recommend you try this because the
dog will try so hard for so long to obtain the food that it ends up being cruel
to the dog.
If Obama want something, Republicans will oppose it; no
matter what it is. No matter how bad it is for the country. A way to judge individual
Republican bestiality is to try to evaluate how much they are willing to hurt
themselves to gain power. No matter how illogical or how bad the decisions they
make will be for them, they will be persistent until they bleed what power they
have; their most treasured access. Biologically ingrained persistence retained
by Tea Party Republicans is now being manifest in the bestial environment of Washington
D.C.; we should watch the up coming budget default debate with this in mind. Will they show their Tea Party face of their American
face; their bestial face or their altruistic face?
