I often write about politics with my liberal bias showing.
One of the themes is a “Sky is Falling”; conservatives are winning. The other
day, I saw a tired old graph again on liberal media. I think it was on +Wonkblog.
The graph was a depiction of a “V” lying on its side with the apex positioned
on the y-axis depicting changes in economic status and the x-axis being years. The
data used in the graph is verifiable. I searched on the internet and found the
same information presented many different ways.
I realized that graph beautifully and accurately illustrated
what I have been trying to say in multiple blog posts. The vertex of the “V” is positions precisely on
Jan. 20, 1981. +Chief Justice Warren Burger had no choice, the American People
elected +Ronald Reagan and the Chief Justice had to swear him in. That day will
live in infamy in the annals of democracy (Re: Ronald Reagan: Someone Else’s
Hero, firetreepub.blogspot .com). I
would ask the American people to consider seriously, what the lazy “V” graph
means; to really stop and think about it.
One leg of the “V”, the one that has moved steadily down,
indicates the trend of American workers wages. Is there anyone among you who believes
that falling wages is a good thing. Seriously, is there any worker who thinks
it is a good thing to be earning less money? Is there any small business or
professional who thinks it is good that their customers and clients have less
money to spend? When you ask these questions ask the people how they vote. If
they answer they vote Republican, ask them to explain why wages are falling. When they say they “love Ronald Reagan”,
ask them why? I have several hundred
posts on this bog site trying to point out that application of Republican philosophy
hurts workers across our nation. Once again it points out that one graph is
worth a thousand blog posts.
The other leg of the “V” goes up from the zero reference.
This indicated company profits have been increasing steadily from Jan 20, 1981.
The same graph would result from depicting CEO compensation, or CEO bonuses or the
number of elevators for Cadillac cars, meaning CEO’s bragging about their wealth. This graph is a perfect illustration of what
Reaganomics has done for this country. Look at the record it is all there. The
graph shows what the average result is of every act of congress and judgment of
the radical right wing supreme court. I often hear the refrain; the money has
to go to the “job creators”, which it obviously has but still there are not
jobs. Ask the CEO’s “not what they can do for you but what they can do for
themselves”. That question is like
asking a third world dictator, “What have you done for the people lately?” Obama
may be the greatest president we have ever had but he can do very little to
stop the creep of Republican plutocracy started by the worst president we ever
had, Ronald Reagan.
Next time you are with
a Republican, show them the lazy “V” graph and ask them to explain how their
vote has been good for America.
