OBAMA HATE METER

As measured by the right-wing vitriol, the president’s speech was a great speech. The Obama hate meter seemed to hit a new high after the speech. The White House can take the level of anger expressed by the Republicans as an inverse measure of the president’s success; the greater the hate the greater the success. He adds jobs every month in spite of them. He is managing an almost unmanageable situation in Syria and the Middle East. He has appointed some progressive people to his cabinet in spite of there wrath against the government. He has supported agencies they have been trying to destroy. He has stood his ground on the Keystone Pipeline. He has kept terrorist attacks to a minimum in spite of attacks by conservatives and some liberals like +Rachel Maddow and +Chris Hayes. He could set back and relax but in his speech he said he is not going to do that he is going to keep working on this progressive agenda, which once again shows that he is a great president and the hate him for it.

The hate can be measure not only by its intensity but also by is depth or reach into the party. It is not just the radical right wing known as the primary voters or the +Tea Party. The fury of the response is one thing but the depth of the response in the more moderate conservative ranks can be use to judge Obama’s effectiveness.

They have used “Obama Hate Meter” as an autocatalytic guide to there rhetoric. The FOC News team and the Bill O’Reilly as and Rush Limbaugh listeners have been whipped into such an unreasonable state that, for example, they accept someone like Steven King of Iowa saying Mexican immigrants have big calves on their legs from carrying heavy loads of marijuana on there backs. The people in his 4th district in Iowa reject his leadership but that is not that is important in the politics of money, money, money: the Koch Brothers and the Walton Family. Politicians feed on cash as dairy cattle feed on corn silage; they will eat as much as you put in front of them.

Obama hate seems to drive them even further to the right. There is a danger in this. The higher the meter reads the more radical is the legislation they produce. Look at North Carolina; the Republican governor and legislature have made themselves the laughing stock of the nation. The tragedy is that they are passing hurtful laws right and left with massive voter suppression measures with the belief that they will be able to keep the people from voting them out of office for their obvious indiscretion simply by preventing them from voting.  However, when the laughing stops they may still be in power because the voters would rather watch auto races of football games than pay attention to politics. The reason I say this is that workers are more and more productive; however, wages are going down, down, down. Following this trajectory, soon wages will be at zero, the Republican dream situation; something we used to refer to as the “plantation south”.
