Yesterday I published a post “North Carolina on Road to Ruin”
decrying the actions of the State Legislature in respect their new tax-code revisions.
I failed to conclude with why they were doing what they were doing; therefore, the
post was without a message. At the time
I forgot my own axiom, which is if it doesn’t make sense the action taken is
probably the result of ignorance or genetics. Yesterday’s post addressed the
idea of ignorance but not the impact of genetics.
The Republican legislators are bankrupting the state. A review
of the “new” tax code makes this obvious. They must know they are bankrupting
the state because of history. George W. Bush cut taxes increased spending
(wars, business subsidies, remove regulations, etc) and bankrupted the county. They
are following the Republican mantra as simplified by Frank Luntz to “cut taxes”,
“regulations are evil”, and “hate the government”. They follow the trajectory of Ronald Reagan,
which was trickle down economics; every third world country proves it is a disastrous
economic program for the working class. How
can it be that they do not know these things? The answer is they are not stupid
people; they do know these things; therefore, it is not ignorance, but
something else is guiding their actions.
Republicans gained power after many, many years of not
having the power. As children deprived of candy by a caring mother, they are
acting like adolescents in a candy store. A knuckle dragging pre-human evolve seeking the
sweetest fruits. Instinct instilled the idea that the sweetest fruit was the
best of all foods for survival but also was rarest. In addition, the greediest
among them was the one who consumed the most of the sweetest fruit and in turn was
the strongest, which meant that he or she could better fulfill his or her greed,
and lust. Lust of course refers to reproductive behavior. Moving from the bestial world into the modern world,
we find that physical strength translates into political and in turn economic power.
To have political power means riches. With political power they satisfy there
pent-up greed—they will consume everything they can get in their greedy little hands.
It is most obvious in North Carolina because it is happening so fast.
Without the “nurturing democratic mother” in the legislature,
Republicans will eat all the candy, even if it makes the State sick. Like children,
who hate the mother but accept all the good thinks she does for them, will the American
people just have to wait ideally until Republicans mature. Will the American
people allow them Republicans until they are sick, then step in and try to
correct the situation. In the world of
realpolitik, that is not a healthy option for even one of fifty states in the
United States to take—do I have to point out that Henry Kissinger’s, the icon
of realpolitik was a Republican? Shakespeare was right, “History is prologue”.
The question is who will write the prologue.
