San Diego Mayor Bob Filner should resign but if he doesn’t he
should be recalled. The evidence is in and it is overwhelming; he is a sexual predator.
There is a lesson in all of this or the GOP. The Republican Party held the
mayors office for years. They treated as their property. In keeping with their philosophy of “using power to retain power”, they
passed a law changing the State rules concerning recall petitions. The State
of California requires 10% of voters to sign a petition but also allows 120
days to obtain the required number of signatures. The Republican controlled government
of that city decided it would be best to protect “their” seat by increasing the
number of signatures required to 15% and shorten the time to obtain those
signatures from 120 days to 60 days. Did
I mention that Filner is a Democrat
and now the Republican laws are backfiring?
Remember the GOP created situations to prevent poor and
black people from voting and they people responded by lining up in great long
lines to vote. Their actions increased turn out of the voters they targeted.
Their plan backfired. In North Carolina, they now have passed a law that says
poll workers must close the door one hour after the polls closed thus
preventing voters from voting. At the same time, they have passed laws shorting
the numbers of days the polls are open for voting. You can be sure they will
decrease the number of voting machines to further increase the length of lines.
If you are a Republican and proud to be an American, then are you should be
ashamed of your party?
