Elizabeth Warren, the new senator from Massachusetts, has always
impressed me as a “get the job done” pragmatists. Judging from the favorable
press concerning her rise in popularity in the political ranks, apparently many,
many other people think the same thing. She
is suddenly the new gun in Washington DC.
Although part of the Dodd-Frank Legislation, the consumer financial
protection bureau (CFPB) was designed by her and now is being shepherded into
and active agency by her. She was not able to talk congress into confirming her
as director because big money bought congressional votes to prevent the nomination
of anyone as head of that agency. That fact led to her nomination and subsequent
election to the Senate. Now, her fingerprints are all over the Senate 66-34 vote to confirm Richard
Cordray as director of the Bureau.
The formation of CFPB, Warren’s election to the Senate, and
Cordray’s confirmation is how democracy is suppose to work but more importantly.
It is not just a victory in procedure but it will literally save middle class
American’s billions of dollars. That means big financial businesses will not be
able to extract that amount of money out of our pockets and put it in the Cayman
Island banks. David, in the form of Elizabeth Warren was able to do what is
right, which is beat a monolith of corruption and greed, a financial Goliath. I
hope there is a message in this for the children of our Nation; if she can do, it
so can you.
