There seems to be a trend developing in the world of
politics under the radar that is bad for working people. We all know about gerrymandering,
voter suppression, and the other troubling things Republicans are using to gain
and hold power. We also know abut the excessive use of cloture and the so-called
Hastert’s rule used in congress to unsettle established democratic order; to
take power from the people and put it in the hands of the anointed few. But how
often, have you heard about Republican controlled legislature writing measures
into legislation that prevents voters from overturn those laws: Wisconsin.
Michigan, Ohio, North Carolina. Check every Republican controlled states
legislation for the past number of years and you will find numerous examples on
issues ranging from gun control through abortion into manner of doing business.
A newspaper article my attention to the problem by that pointed
out the Supreme Court of the United States has ruled against people
who have filed claims against large corporations. The courts ruled in favor of the
corporations in seven out of eight cases. When you or a small business deals with a
corporation there is a fine print paragraph in the contract that says you give
up your right to file a class actions suite. Like legislation, there are paragraphs
that you agree with to do business with the government or with these pervasive
companies. These paragraphs are specifically designed to protect the companies or
the political party from class action law suites and now the radically conservative
Karl Rove Supreme Court is upholding them . . . A REAL BLOW TO THE PEOPLE. Ask George W. Bush how a political
punk like Rove could cause such a grave problems.
These companies are too big
to care. They are too big to be efficient in anything but making money. They
can make and sell junk: dangerous and inferior items with impunity. They can
indulge in misleading advertising. The government can takeover your city, fire
elected people, sell the cities assets, and you can do nothing about it because
the law says they can do it but it also says that you cannot overturn the law. If you go to the highest court in the land for
protection, they tell you to go to hell; they tell you they are upholding the
law. This is conservative America but is this the America you want to live in?
