Gov. Pat McCrory shames our State of North Carolina again. A large group of children
with parents and legislative escorts showed up at the Capital to talk to the
governor. His secretary lied and said he was in a meeting. She lied because he
told her to lie. The truth was that the Governor was on the other side of the
building playing catch with someone. There is a message in all of this to his Republican
supports; he only answers to his small base of rich radical rightwing rogues. He is not interested in the people once
they were foolish enough to elect him to office—in office he sees himself as the
“big” boss and they can go to hell; he doesn’t need them, he doesn’t respect
them. He gave them the bird. In fact, his supporters even put together a Youtube Video clip to that effect but took it down in minutes.
His supporters enjoy his defiant display of power. They, like him,
are passing bill after bill in the process of decimating the State and handing
it over to Art Pope. There is something the people can do and that is not vote
for him or any other of the Republican legislators—oh, I almost forgot, they
have redistricted the legislative districts and suppressed the vote so you do
not have a vote. Well at least, you can educate you children, Oh no, I forgot
the school districts have been reorganized to save money so they could lower
taxes on businesses and to hell with the children, especially the ones that
showed up to talk to him.
There is one thing you can do . . . and all american thing; support the North Carolina Association of Educators. Did I mention Art Pope owns and operates variety stores?
That is where he got the money to buy McCrory and corrupt our government. Did I
mention,
The North Carolina Association of Educators is calling on shoppers to
boycott stores owned by conservative powerbroker Art Pope . . . The two biggest stores in Pope's Variety Wholesalers chain are Roses and Maxway. The smaller stores
rounding out his business, which target low-income and African-America
neighborhoods, are Bargain Town, Bill's Dollar Store, Super
10, Super Dollar, Treasure Mart and Value Mart.
Send a message, rather
than shoot yourself in the foot by shopping at these stores so Pope and McCrory
can hurt you and your children, just go outside and toss a baseball around.
Are you sorry you
voted for a Republican? If not, wait until you get your next utility bill and
pay your state taxes.

For some time now, blogster Jerry Stevens has been telling us of the sad state of political affairs in the once great state of North Carolina. Coming from a "blue" west coast state, I was interested in Jerry's writings but since it was NIMBY, I said a few tsk, tsks and said to myself, "poor Jerry, living in such a backward-looking state must be tough for an avowed Liberal". He had mentioned the name Art Pope but I apparently missed the significance of this guy until I read this article.

Many of we Liberals were aghast of the Supes ruling in Jan 2011 that opened the flood gates to unlimited anonymous donations to political candidates. Pope has made our worst nightmare come true -- the ability to BUY not just a few political offices, but a WHOLE DAMN STATE!!!. And this may just be the beginning of an effort to capture the whole USA, using techniques that worked in NC, with Karl Rove leading and the Kochs and Pope supplying cubic yards of money.
Some of us predicted that this might happen in the far out future but not so soon. The only possible way to slow or stop this runaway train wreck was proposed by ex Governors Christine Whitman of NJ and Howard Dean of VT

i.e. government funding of all national elections. Sounds like another big government program but the alternative is to cave in to an Oligarchy ala some previous South American dictatorships or Bautista's Cuba.
