The conservatives for two reasons do not like Hagel. First,
he is a man of peace. Second, Obama nominated him. You have a lot of acting
going on in Washington and the scene is set in the Arms services Committee
against a backdrop of Israel, Korea, Afghanistan, Egypt, Syria, etc. There are
26 members, 14 Democrats and 12 Republicans. The one thing we have to keep in mind
is that every state in the union has a defense contractor. Also, remember that Obama
has taken an aggressive foreign policy strategy including the use of drone tactics,
which has seriously divided the pro-Pentagon, pro-Israel factions in the
conservative party. The result is that we on the outside do not know how the
vote will go but trust the Chair Carl Levin will not call for a vote unless he
has the votes to send Hagel’s nomination to the full senate.
