RICH, POOR, AND POLITICAL PHILOSOPHY

Do rich kids live better than poor kids do?  As a teacher, I used to say a dumb question was one to which you already knew the answer. That is a dumb question; of course they do. However, when you put in the context of do people in a rich country live better than people live in a poor country, the answer seems to create confusion in the minds of Republicans.  The United States of America is a rich country. We should not tolerate people going without medical, or education, or suffering from old age poverty, or children without enough to eat. These things happen in poor countries. I visited and lived in these countries. I know what it is like. We have worked hard and pay high taxes to prevent such thing from happening. Why do Republicans seem to think that school lunch programs and aide for dependant children, Medicare and Medicaid are so wrong? Is it wrong that rich kids live in big houses and drive sports cars? Why do they seem to want people to live in shacks and walk were they have to go? What is it in their philosophical make up that allows them to accept people living in poverty as being OK? I have come to the ugly conclusion; it is dominance and selfishness and it is in their genes. I am glad I am not that way. I could not live with myself.
