POST OFFICE:THE DEVIL (ISSA) IS IN THE DETAILS

What Darrell Issa is doing to the post office is what Republicans want to do to the entire government. It costs money so get rid of it. I think the important thing for American people to understand is how he is doing it so we can keep prevent a bigger disaster. First, he along the Republicans Party when they took control of House of Representatives in 2010, declared their faithfulness to the Constitution—all apple pie, motherhood, and goodness. The next thing was a declaration to balance the “books” of all government agencies. Issa eyed the post office, at the request of lobbyists, because private companies saw the potential to make big money if the post office disappeared. That is, replace a socialist agency with private enterprise, which is capitalism, The Post Office was doing just fine in spite of e-mail and other technical advances in communications. In addition, they were paying for costly delivery to rural area while still making money—a private company would not do anything that did not make them “more” money. It is interesting that Issa represents a rural district.

Issa and like-minded congressional representative figured out a clever way to destroy the economic credibility of the U. S. Post office.  If they could show the Post Office was losing money, the taxpayer’s would support them destroying it. What they did is require the post office to put enough money in the bank to cover pensions for 75 years. No other business, private or government agency, is “required by law” to do this. The huge payment exceeded the income thus forcing the U.S. Post office into bankruptcy.

Now Issa is pointing his fickle finger of greed at the postal service and demanding they either balance the budget or close up shop.  The post office administration is fighting vigorously to pay their bills by cutting service, accepting delays in deliveries, etc. The naive public supports Issa because the post has cut services, is not as efficient, and a government agency is losing money. Obviously, as any good Republican will tell you, taxpayers do not want to pay for something that isn’t making money or providing good service.  In a republicans mind, it is un-American not to make money so even if it is in the Constitution it doesn’t matter; it has to go.
