FOXHOLE REPUBLICANS

If it happens or not, there will be a lesson to learn from the “sequestration”. I saw the President standing in front of a large group of first responders, people who are on the government payroll. He wasn’t there for the drama of it but think of how effective it would be if he were stranding in front of all the boarder guards, the first responders, the teachers, the air traffic controllers, and an arm long list of other people effected by the sequester and when the ax fall, he would  turn to them, point a long bony finger and say, “Your fired.” Do you really think this is what the Republicans want? Yet, it is precisely what they say they want, which is smaller government! Some like Rand Paul, who grew up in a toxic family environment, embrace the concept more that others; “Get the government completely out of my life”. Although to different degrees, the same theme is there in “all” Republican rhetoric.

Obviously, what they want changes from day to day. Contrary to the famous WW II declaration of FDR, there can be no such thing as “freedom from want”. They want the government out of their lives but they want the government to do all the things they cannot do for themselves. The boarder guards, the first responders, the teachers, the air traffic controllers, and an arm-long list of other people who will lose their jobs when the “sequester” hits are precisely the people they want in their lives at one time or another. Sure, there are some like Warren Buffet, Mitt Romney, Michael Bloomberg, and Bill Gates, who can buy all of these things. However, they are not the ones who want the government to do for them things they can do for themselves including a private armies, private curriers, a fire truck in there backyard, a fully staffed medical clinic in the back office, a private plane that can land on a private airport, and all kinds of other that are ridiculous when we do not need them.

If all of this speculation is true, then what is the target of the “small government Republicans”? What do they want to destroy? As I point out repeatedly in my blog posts, it is anything and everything they do not need at the moment. If they do not have children, they no not want to pay for schools. If they are not sick, they do not want to support 24-hour emergency hospitals. If there is no one breaking and entering, they do not need 911 operators or the police. If they are not paraplegic, they do not need access ramps in public buildings.  If they have food to eat, they do not need soup kitchens. Can anyone look at this list of needs and services and say a billionaire could not satisfy what ever it is with private funds. Compare the rich Republican to a working Republican with a minimum wage job or even a Republican working person and his wife both working at a minimum wage job. How about considering a $250,000 to $300,000 a year professional Republican? I like to think that an Ayn Rand Republican is equivalent to being a foxhole Christian. At the moment of crisis, all these Republicans would become Democrats, that is have the government help them, with the caveat; they would revert right back to being capital “R” selfish when the crisis passes and they no longer need taxpayer’s dollars to help them do what they can not do for themselves. You don’t believe this? Check out the political affiliation of victims of Hurricane Sandy, before and after the government came up with the $80 B. Ask Governor Chris Christie, he will tell you to mind your own business.
