EXTREME PLAN COULD EMBARRASS REPUBLICANS

PLAN COULD EMBARRASS ALL REPUBLICANS
There is a hidden danger in all of this sequestration talk. The “hate the government people” who are floating an extreme plan are hoping the trap is already set. The plan is raw meat being fed to the Tea Party radicals. Everyone agrees there are two counter balancing components to the Draconian cuts in the “sequestration” agreement. Cuts to the military, hated by Republicans, are balanced by cuts to social programs, hate by Democrats. Here is the plan according to the word on the street. Cause, not the same thing as ‘allow’, the sequester plan to happen, and then propose legislation to restore all military cuts but not restore “any” cuts to social programs. Is this even a plan we should consider workable?

First, the Republicans control the House of Representatives, so they can prevent a sequester solution. Although there is accumulating evidence that the Tea Party is losing power to control the House Republicans, still Boehner is such a weak leader we cannot be sure.  Second, for the same reason, they may be able to introduce and pass legislation restoring all Pentagon cuts. The hope of these nefarious types is that Democrats will not want to vote to cut defense spending; therefore, the plan will have the force of being bipartisan. Will the plan work? No! Not in this crude form, it won’t. The legislation will be refined to restore money to both.  I am sure that the President and the Democrats will never sign off on any plan if it hurts social programs and the Republicans will not sign off on any plan that hurts the pentagon. In other words, the plan will go nowhere—it is Kabuki Theater. That being the case the “all or nothing plan” plans should be dead in the water. However, because of the radial nature of the plan, if tried, it will end up embarrassing the Republicans for their failure to compromise—as it should.
