CLOTURE: REID GAVE AWAY DEMOCRATIC MAJORITY

Again, I listened to Joe Scarborough this morning on MSNBC. Again, the subject came up of Harry Reid’s decision to not to do something concerning the Republicans use of cloture. More pointedly, this time it had to do with Obama’s nomination of Hagel’s as Secretary of Defense. The implication was that Harry Reid did nothing about cloture because he was afraid that someday the Republicans would take over the senate. When that happened, the Democrats would want the same power they gave to the current Republican minority; therefore, he settled on a gentleman’s agreement that the Republicans would not use it the power except when the Constitution mandated its use.

How naive can these knuckle draggers get and still walk upright! The Senate rules are that on the first day of business each "new Senate" sets the rules by which they will operate. Does anyone in their right mind think that if Republicans had a slim majority vote in the Senate that they would allow a Democratic minority to use cloture the  way they use it. Harry Reid gave away the power of the majority of the people because he is afraid to a primary challenge and not because he thinks the Republicans would treat Democrats fairly if they had the majority, or that he wants a balanced government, or for any other reason. He is from a Red State therefore vulnerable to Republican gangland style protection racket pressure—your vote or your job.

A Republican majority, even if only one vote, would be treated by them as a mandate. If you think otherwise, then As Rev. Al Sharpton says in one of his video clips, “I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you.”
