ELECTING A DICTATOR

Rachel Maddow (MSNBC) has made a great point. There is a move to corrupt the Electoral College voting to favor Republicans by using gerrymandering of districts. This is not some hair-brained scheme. It worked in terms of electing more Republicans to the House of Representatives (H of R) than Democrats even when Democrats cast the majority of votes in the state in question. They have control of the H of R by 33 votes. Another way they are winning control of states is through use of the Citizen’s United Supreme court decision. Multimillionaire James Arthur Pope in North Carolina, for example, bought enough districts to swing the election of a state legislative body and the Republican Governor in many, many years. They have control of a number of states legislative districts where the majority of voters are democrats for this reason. Mother Jones tells us that “more than half of the electorate voted for Democratic representation, yet Republicans will fill about 70 percent of the state's House seats”. The news organization then adds, “Maybe that's not quite cheating--it is legal, after all--but it sure smells like it." The point is there “cheating” has a very dangerous snowball effect. Rachel is right. They are using the “Red Map strategy” to destroy our democracy. If you set back and say it will never happen remember this, the only way to have a dictator in a democracy is to elect one. State by state, they will change the Electoral College rules until they can elect a Republican with a minority of votes. Pennsylvania is State Number One. Democrats, it is panic time! By the way, in reference to the Mother Jones quote, I just posted a blog pointing out that it is not legal.
