In reference to advertisements against Chuck Hagel for Secretary
Defense, isn’t campaigning against a presidential cabinet post nominee something
new? I know that the right wing went crazy, campaigned furiously, and spent
bundles of money, in support of radical right wing supreme court judges; Alito,
Roberts, and Thomas. They wanted to stack the court. And campaigned to the end. I really think this is the
brainchild of Karl Rove. Remember Rove
was the guy who got caught for political interference with federal court. He was also the guy who wanted to create a political
environment that would lead to a permanent republican majority. I don't think Rove had a hand in this but he started the practice.
Now we have a
secretly funded campaign against Chuck Hegel’s nomination. I think if you look
at the ads you will be able to identify the hand of the military industrial complex
for the following reason: the special interests group identified in the ad have
never been “bed fellows” before, which means that some force outside politics is at work. I could not imagine them working together on
anything. My conclusion, the only ones who could not want Hagel are those who
would want a huge pentagon with a bloated budget would want war—does war with
Iran to protect Israel make sense. Perhaps JAPAC does not want be identified as the ones supporting a right wing Obama cause.
