THE REPUBLICAN WAY: LETTER TO THE 8TH DISTRICT OF OHIO

Ezra Klein did a superlative job guest hosting the Rachael Maddow show on MSNBC last night.  This guy is an intellect . . .  a real wonk. A fruits of his deep thinking changed my attitude about the words “coming together’. In effect, he said it is an expression that should not even be used in Washington “speak”. My entire life I have always believed to compromise is good. It is the thing to do. I looked at what President Obama is doing in the fiscal cliff negotiations and said that is great. Compromise or coming together is what is called for. As Mr. Klein explained, it is not; it is a way of “giving away the store”. He cited the recent details of the negotiations. Everything is going to their side. The Republicans are giving nothing—zero—and Obama is giving everything. By desperately trying to “come together”, he is giving up what the American people voted him into office to protect while the losers are giving up nothing, thus winning. The American people rejected their concept of the “government is there to serve the rich”.

Republicans lost the election but are winning the negotiations in Washington . . . big time. This is the “Republican way”. It is what they always do. It seems innate. In contrast, progressives, in the name of being fair, being good human beings, being honest in dealings, always compromise. It does not serve us well. It makes progressives (us) look to be weak sniveling cowards. I saw the exact same format used in the struggles for power that lead to the demise of two great colleges in the United States and am seeing the format in play on a much bigger scale in the entire country (University Industrial Complex; Amazon.com).

Stop it. Give them nothing.  No more compromise: zero. Dangerous course of action when you are dealing with idologues: of course it is. Look at Boehner. He is willing to sacrifice the entire fiscal well being of his country for his job as House Majority leader—does that make him a hero? No.  It makes him what he is; a power greedy man not worthy of the position he holds. Who is responsible? The voter of the 8th district of Ohio are responsible for believing he is acting in their best interest—he is acting in his own selfish best interest.
