The T-Party has shamed the entire Republican Party this time in a big way. The United Nation treaty being voted on was to establish the Americans Disabilities Act worldwide; it lost by five votes. The Senate required a 66 vote out of 100 to approve the treaty. It should have been a shoe-in. In addition to the simplistic T-partiers, some “normal” conservative senators voted against the ratification. Why? One simple thing, they are afraid of a T-Party supported primary challenge. Having said that, I want to cycle back to one of my Firetree blogging themes, the people who vote for T-party nuts are responsible. These radicals bring all the trappings of modern politics to these challenges: big money supporting selected down ballot candidates, dishonest campaigning, and voter suppression are examples of what they do to cheat in the game of democracy. If you want to study what these techniques are, go to the Scott Walker recall election in Wisconsin—a classic T-Party election they won.
