I listened to Chris Hayes this morning; only it wasn’t Chris Hayes nor was the
show in the usual Chris Hayes format: three left leaning democrats and one middle
of the road conservatives populated the screen. This morning, to the shock and
horror of his usual listeners, like me, there was one radical republican (Amy
Kremer) and one reasonable Republican (Fergus Cullen) and two liberals. Mr.
Cullen, former chairman of the New Hampshire
Republican Party, pointed out what many of us suspected, which is that
there was and still is a huge division between the Tea Party and the Republican
Party. Amy Kremer, “chairman” of the Tea Party Express, espoused the usual
Radical Tea Party diatribe against the American family. Why this show was so
important to liberals is that it allowed the usual listeners to evaluate directly
the lies on which the Tea Party thrives in contrast to moderate republicanism. The
shortsightedness of the Tea Party positions looses something in the usual liberal
translation of them.
First, their
party positions are kindergarten simple, “No more taxes” and “Pay down the
deficit”. They are actually proud of the fact that Tea Party members do not
want to pay taxes to support their own government; like very young children,
they want the candy but do not want to pay for it. They want all the advantages
but do not want to pay for them, which means they want someone else to pay.
That, my liberal friends, is the very definition of child like greed.
Rather than be
ashamed of the fact they are irresponsible, they brag that Pete Domenici was that
last Republican Politician to vote to increase taxes. That happened in Oct.
1990. He voted in favor of a bill to
reduce federal deficits. Stop and think about that. Think of a household in
which the breadwinner decides not to contribute to the economic wellbeing of
the house in which he lives; Amy Kremer’s Tea Party, she was the guest on the
show, mindlessly advocates doing exactly that. They act as though they want
their family to live as they lived in 1929; no social security, no Medicare, unemployment
insurance, no minimum wage, no unions, no advances of any kind, no broadband,
not iPad, no elevators for Cadillac’s (in fact, no auto company bailouts therefore
no Cadillac’s), no preemptive wars, no expanding of or fixing of the national
or cities infrastructure, no EPA, no FAA, no SEC, etc. Amy will not say it but it is not want they
really want. They want to be able to
pick and chose those things that they can afford as individuals but eliminate
what poor people can only afford collectively. However, if they can sucker the poor
people into paying for what they want, they will take it; police, fire, good streets,
huge damns, army, navy, etc. They want a free ride.
They claim to have
one thing in mind; pay down the national deficit. They conveniently want you to
forget that they under the misadventures of George W. Bush already foolishly spend
the money. We are not talking about future spending. They are refusing to pay
for what they already spent. Their slight of hand, which was so obvious this
morning, is that the Tea Party wants us (our government) to destroy all social
programs to pay for their foolishness, in some cases tragic foolishness. Amy Kremer
wants to hurt her own family by making them live as they lived back before the
New Deal, that would be pre-FDR, 1932. Keep in mind they intentionally spent
the money to create an economic crisis. Now they are fighting to take advantage
of the crisis they created to destroy what they hate the most, the 47%.
