Romney wiped up the floor with Obama last night in the
debate. This makes it look bad for the
President. The only good thing for the liberals like me is that Romney made
many statements that he will have to defend. His campaign has been making these
disturbing statements before but in the context of the debate, it was he who
made them at 40 million people heard him make them.
What disturbed me more than Obama just losing the date were
the ideas that Romney was selling. He clearly wants to go back to the Republican
policies that caused the great economic collapse but he wants to do it with
Paul Ryan at his back. We know what it means to have a Tea Party type standing
behind a politician who might compromise. Eric Cantor stood behind Boehner in the
House of Representatives in the same way as Ryan is standing behind Romney
ready to cutthroat at the first indication of deviation from the Ayn Rand path—they
made compromise a dirty word. For example, he blamed Obama for beggaring the
middle class when everyone should know that it was Republican anti union
busting and overseas jobs that was responsible. Everyone knows that the
Republicans spent money like drunken sailors to create a debt crisis so they
could use the shock doctrine of it to crush “New Deal Legislation”, which is 75
years old and is working beautifully in spite of all their attempts to destroy
it. Somehow, the Republicans seem to think that if they do not have universal healthcare,
do not have social security, and do not have infrastructure they will be better
off. Of course, they think everyone should have healthcare, it is just that
everyone for them means everyone who can pay for it as individuals. These are
the very people who start and run insurance companies based on the very principles
they are trashing. If they do not have government
but let corporations, which they cannot vote out of office, run things they
will be better off. They was private
schools only the well off can afford; that way their children do not have to
mix with poor kids. They want deregulation to favor their greed. They do not
want big government but want to stick their nose into the voting booths to
prevent minority voters from voting. They want all the good things in life but
do not want you—the people working two jobs at minimum wage—to pay for them but worst of all they do not want you to have a vote.
