I listened to Chris Hayes and Rachael Maddow on MSNBC last night. There was nothing unusual about that, however, the unfortunate thing is that there was nothing unusual about their programs and that is the problem. I had heard them rant and rave over the same topics repeatedly; they moved from intellectualism to emotionalism, which means the stopped discussing things. I have posted before about their joining Fox news commentators who use the same technique in viciously attacking Obama. For MSNBC it is not radical right attacking the left, it is liberal attacking liberals. In addition, they lack deference to President Obama; if he does nothing the attack him for not dong anything, when he or his administration does something, they attack him for not doing more, and if what he does was something thing they don’t agree with they attack. By that, I mean they are not only are anti what they profess to stand for but they are one-issue news commentators looking for ratings. To be more accurate they are two issue commentators: Chris Hayes sets his stance and looks defiantly into the camera and blames Obama for not doing everything he sees that is wrong, and Rachel Maddow, with a great deal of cynicism, sees only gay rights and women’s rights as issues. Don’t they realize they are turning off liberals and limiting the range of interest to one ore two issues, hence the numbers listeners.
Both of these commentators are liberals. Hayes, when he hosted the show Up, did a great job. It was a “must see” for me on weekends. Now Steve Kornacki does the same thing and has my respect for doing it. A panel of three liberals and one conservative intellectual discussed current issues at a level of discourse well about that of news programs. Rachel Maddow and her staff used to look into politicians, their history and associations, and their manipulations and tried to analyze their line of reasoning. Something has changed. For me the only thing that will change is my TV channel. The problem is that there is nowhere for a liberal like me to go to be with my own kind. Big money has bought up all the channels. Doesn’t that scare you? It scares me.
