Jerry,
ReplyDeleteMy heart bleeds for you for having to live in the South and for the minority citizens of the South. I cringe to think of what the Pope/McCrory cabal will do now that all bets are off. Jim Crow has been resuscitated. Can the poll tax be far behind?
Another comment regarding today's court decision:
ReplyDeleteDuring the 2000 presidential campaign, many of us feared where the Republican fiscal and military agenda would lead us and we were right -- costly (for the citizens but not for the military contractors) wars. a massive military buildup and fiscal policies that would lead to a recession cum depression. Our other major fear was that the Bush administration would have the opportunity to name several Supreme Court justices. We knew that the Bush policies would run their course and we would eventually have a Democratic president. What we feared most was a cadre of young, right-wing Justices that would be around for generations and would have the opportunity to undo every good thing that has happened since FDR. This is happening as we speak, and should the Republicans regain control of the Congress and Executive branch, we will likely see the privatization (or elimination) of Social Security, Medicare/Medicaid and the overturn of Roe V. Wade. I'm almost glad that I won't likely be around to see that happen but I fear greatly for my children and grandchildren.
