One-issue candidates are an abomination to democracy even if
the position taken on that one issues is one most of us strongly favor. If you
look at the state legislature around the nation and in Washington D. C., you
see the affect of one-issue legislators, they have brought democracy to a stand
still, generated hate, and otherwise stifle debate—thirty-nine votes in the
House of Representatives to repeal Obamacare. I have great hopes for Wendy
Davis in Texas.

DAVIS VS. PERRY IN TEXAS
I have advice for Texas State Senator Wendy Dave. Her stand on
abortion, prochoice was her gateway to popularity. She has aspirations of higher
office and can cash in on that popularity but has to be clever about how she
does it. Already, I see signs of her throwing away opportunity. By that, I
mean, Joe Scarborough gave her Nation Wide TV coverage this morning on Morning
Joe (MSNBC) she failed to take advantage of it. She could have, should have,
and with proper advice would have added tremendously to her persona if she said
that she was concerned about the distain of state government is showing for
civil rights, concerned about the direction the economy in Texas is taking, and
about Texas being the highest by far in executions; these are progressive issues.
Yes, prochoice is one of a number of important issues but she should have used
her segue into a discussion to promote the entire progressive agenda, which
would be central to any campaign the Governor’s seat in Texas.
