DAVIS LEARNS TEXAS STYLE POLITICAL ETHICS

The Wendy Davis incident in the Texas Legislature should be looked at from the point of view  of Republican trickery, which is a nice way of saying they cannot seem to help themselves from playing dirty in the game of politics. The issue debated was important from the point of view of both sides, but the technique they used to prevent filibustering is unconscionable—there is not debate about that.  Davis could not touch the lectern, she could not have any support including a back support, she could not have a toilet break, she could not do this or she could not do that but she could still filibuster. Among the most egregious restriction were she could not say certain things as judged by the president of the Texas legislature, without the possibility of a challenge by anyone.

The Republican mind set is to win at all costs. It is the little league coach who tells the children, it isn’t how you play the game it is that you win. Or the guy who says, “Show me a good loser and I will show you a loser”. We don’t teach our children to be selfish yet we send them to Harvard Business School to get an MBA degree based on the bottom line and not morality—profits are all that counts. That is what Wendy Davis, while representing her tenth district, learned about her fellow Texans but so did the rest of the county.
