UNDERSTANDING BEHAVIOR IS DIFFICULT

While puzzling over this thing about gays in the Boy Scouts of America, it dawned on me that the right wing argument centers on one misunderstanding. It appears that the misunderstanding is deliberately promoted, that is like the “birther” movement, by right-wing types even when they do not believe it.  It is well known by all except the very few exceptionally slow or mentally challenged, that gay people are not pedophiles any more than straight people have that personality defect. The macho guy, more so the macho guy who fears his own propensity toward gayness might be discovered, wants to promote hate for what he or she does not understand by accusing all gays of “wanting to commit” a heinous crime.

Their deep-seated motive for wanting to create hate remains unknown. Perhaps it is all part of the dominance hierarchy thing embedded in our genomes by millions of years of knowing the top “dog” is the most apt to survive. If evolutionary psychologists are right that our current behavior reflect primitively naturally selected genes, it is a real shame that individual self-promotion, something that we share with chickens, can have such a bad side effect of our behavior in a way that reflects badly on such a worthy organization as the BSA. If that is not the case, do we give up trying and just throw our hand up and accept that we do not know how to explain ourselves.
